Thursday, the last day of the UK Open 2009, was the day of Amateur Standard (Ballroom) and Professional Latin competitions.
Amateur Standard (Ballroom)
The winners of this competition were Benedetto Ferruggia & Claudia Koehler from Germany. The couple who were the silver medallists of the World Amateur Standard last year looked great this evening. After Paolo Bosco turned professional they are the strongest couple at the moment in this category. The second place went to the Italians Andrea Ghigiarelli & Sara Andracchio. On the third place were Emanuel Valeri & Tania Kehlet who represent Denmark. They were very pleased to be placed so high on this occassion in comparison to the recent World Championships where they ended up on the 6th place.
Professional Latin
This competition, as always, is the final event at the UK Open and attracts a big crowd of fans. The current reining World Professional Latin champions Michal Malitowski & Joanna Leunis from Poland were announced the winners of this event. As always they looked immaculate and perfectly composed. The second place went to the very popular Riccardo Cocchi & Yulia Zagorouitchenko from USA. We will see soon how close the results of these two top couple were. Colin James, who did the presentation, intentionally paused for 30 seconds before announcing the first two places to make us hold our breath! The third place was taken by another couple from Poland Sergey Sourkov & Agnieszka Melnicka.
